Sprinkle sandwiches

We are learning about procedural writing.  This is 'how to' steps such as recipes, playing a game and making items. Our writing should also use the words 'First, Next, Then, Finally'. Last week we started with a recipe by making 100s and 1000s sandwiches.

FIRST we buttered the bread.

NEXT we put on the sprinkles

LAST we ate our sandwich (it was so yummy we ate our sandwich before Ms B could get a photo!)

Shapes all around

As apart of Geometry we have been learning about 2D shapes, such as the triangle, circle, rectangle and square.  We can tell you how many sides and corners each of these shapes have.  We went on a walk to the playground to see if we could find any shapes.
Rico found an octagon (just like the octopus with 8 legs)

Looks like Hunter has found a spider web with a large circle

Justin and Isabel are excited to have found an octagon too

Great spotting many squares Ashley and Dylan

Has Jireh found a rectangle or a square?

Whoo hoo - the tunnel is a circle!

Faith and Dylan have found more circles. Many children climb these each day.

Great searching Dylan!  You have found a circle on our new naughts and crosses game

How many triangles do you have to swing across Ayden?

We are so lucky to have a cool stadium for our bey blades. Hey wait a minute - it's an octagon shape!

Great spotting Kyah, you have found a circle. How many sides does a circle have?

It's pretty high up, but Sophie still managed to seek out a rectangle

Look! Circle tyres under the tree

50 days at school

Each day we become more excited as we get closer to our 100th day at school (then we get to have a party!!!!).  Last Thursday we had a mini celebration as we had been at school for 50 days.

At Jump Jam we only had half the songs. In reading we only read half the story 'Time for Bed' and had to read the other half at home.

These lovely ladies came with half their hair up

The boys had half their trouser legs up and the other half down

Zach, Ashley and Kyah only got half dressed this morning!

World Jelly Bean Day

We know that when you plant a seed it needs lots of water and sunlight to help it to grow into a plant or flower. On Wednesday 22nd April it was World Jelly Bean day and so we discussed what would happen if we planted a jelly bean. After some of us saying it would turn into a jelly bean plant or lime trees, we each planted our own jelly bean. They have been watered and are getting lots of sunshine, while we patiently wait to see what happens.  Watch this space...

Meet our new friends

Welcome to the following children who have joined our class since the beginning of the year.  We hope you have lots of fun in Room 2.

Sophie came from Summerland Kindy and joined our class in the last week of Term 1. She is very creative with art and likes to eat raspberry jam sandwiches.  Sophie enjoys visiting Taupo and going on the train at Waihi.

Zach went to Sturges Road Kindy. He likes playing with his younger brother Dylan and sister Hannah who are twins. They are always excited to see him at 3 o'clock. Zach's favourite colour is blue and his favourite food is potatoes.

Ayden also went to Summerland Kindy. His Dad came to Western Heights when he was a kid.  At home Ayden enjoys swinging on his swing and playing with his toy dragon. His favourite food is roast chicken.

Amber went to Summerland Kindy and is happy to be in the same class as her best mates Sophie and Lily. Her brother Toby who is now Year 5 was also in Room when he started school.  Amber likes to go ice skating and her favourite movie is...( you guessed it!) Frozen.
