Our super star Maxx

Every Thursday after school Maxx enjoys playing the games that Play Ball offer.  Yesterday when he was playing one of their games, he fell over.  Maxx got straight back up and soldiered on! The Play ball coach thought he was so awesome that he was given their special medal to wear for the week.  Well done Maxx - we are proud of you!

Waitakere Refuse Station Trip

Today we visited the Refuse Station in Henderson with Rooms 1 & 3. We enjoyed a tour of the Refuse Station and seeing the different areas our household rubbish comes to.  We also learnt about recycling our rubbish at home.

Before heading off on a short walk of the station, we had to make sure we had our hard hat and reflective jacket on.  Sure can't miss us!

On our tour we saw the 'claw digger' that picks up all the wood that people no longer need.

There are also special bins here just for grass clippings

This cool cow was made using recycling bins and milk bottles.

So much metal that will turned into new metal.  Have a close look and see what items you can spot.

Washing machines, fridges and freezers ready to be turned into metal

There are a lot of fantastic people in Waitakere City doing their part of recycling. This is the area where all our recycle plastic and glass comes to - ice cream containers, milk bottles, cans, glass bottles and jars.

The recycling is sorted and packaged into these bales and then shipped off to Thailand to be made into new items

This is about one day of our house hold rubbish that has been not recycled (even though some if it can be).  That is a lot of rubbish going into those grey bags!

We had loads of fun in the area where everything had been made from recycling!
street signs, crutches, golf sticks

We got to see a worm farm.  Do you remember what tiger worms like to eat and not eat?

In the education room we learnt how to sort through out household waste into 'reusable, recyclable, paper, food scraps and waste.  We had a competition against Room 3.  Just quietly - our class won!

Happy Birthday Dr Seuss!

Today is Dr Seuss's birthday.  To celebrate, the whole school dressed up as a character from their favourite Dr Seuss book.

Some of his popular books are Cat in the Hat, The Lorax, Green Eggs and Ham, One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish

His real name is 'Theodor Seuss Geisel'
The first book Dr Seuss wrote was 'And to think I saw it on Mulberry Street'
It took one year to write a book

'Horton Hears a Who' and 'How the Grinch Stole Christmas' were some of the books that were made into films

Here are some of the photos from our fun day
