Bean seed transformation

As part of our Science Day experiments we planted a bean seed. Some of the seeds have transformed into bean stalks and have reached the giant's castle!

Remember to keep giving your seed water, sun and say hello to it everyday.

Your bean stalk is taller than the giant's castle Paige!

Lucas, Ashriya and Harini's beans have transformed into beanstalks!

Very happy that our beanstalks are growing up to the giant's castle!

How tall do you think Ashriya's beanstalk will grow?

Auckland Rescue Helicopter

It's not everyday we have a helicopter land on our school field - but that is exactly what happened this morning! Our middle and senior students took part in a six week Chopper Challenge and raised $10000!!

We thought it was so cool to see the helicopter arrive at our school!

can you spot the helicopter?  it's as small as a bird

Our buddy class teacher Mrs Tipi got to ride in the helicopter

Happy 50th days at school!

Today we celebrated with the rest of the Junior classes, 50 days of being at school. At Jump Jam we only had half of the songs.  Back in class we read half a story and played some maths games counting to 50. We iced half a biscuit and sprinkled it with 100s and 1000s.  We were also very lucky to have hot chips on this cooler Autumn day.

Ella was visiting Room 2 today and will join us after the holidays

Lucas had half a pair of different shoes on.
Jordan and Ashriya had half a pair of different socks.

Ms Boyd painted half of Mikaere, Aarav and John's faces

Paige, Hazel, Jayden and Blair liked the face paint, but only on half of their face

Science Day!

Today we had a science day. Professor Chupa  Chup and Professor Campbell came to help us learn about science.

Professor Chupa Chup asked us if we knew what Science and a Scientist meant.

Then we drew a picture of what we thought a scientist looked liked

One of the experiments we did was called 'Magic Milk'
Professor Chupa Chup said we can do it at home as long as we have an adult with us.
We put some milk into a plate and then added food colouring. Most of the class liked the pink
colour.  Next we dipped a q-tip (cotton bud) into some dish washing liquid.
Finally we carefully put the q-tip into the milk and the colours all moved around the plate. It really was 'magic!'

We made 'Oobleck' or slime. Did you know that this is a Dr Seuss experiment? It gets it's name from the Dr Seuss book Bartholomew and the Oobleck

This term we have been studying transformation.  So as scientists we planted a bean seed and we are going to watch it transform into a bean stalk.  We even made our own castles and clouds just like Jack and the Beanstalk.
We must remember our seed needs water, sunshine and lots of talking to it!

Professor Campbell taught us about solids and liquids, followed by a melting activity.

Professor Campbell let us transform chocolate from a solid into a liquid. Some of the chocolate transformed into liquid.  Can you tell your friends and whanau why only some transformed into liquid?

We then put the chocolate into the freezer and it transformed back into a solid!

And one of the best part of the day... EATING THE CHOCOLATE!

Room 2's book

Last week we read a big book called "Smile" said Dad.  We learnt about rhyming words, and speech marks in the book. It was funny, so Ms Boyd decided to make our own class book.
She hopes you enjoy it!

(apologies for not being able to put it into a book form)

“Smile” said Ms Boyd.
But Ekansh was swimming.

“Smile” said Ms Boyd.

But we were playing with instruments.

But Salolo had his finger in his mouth.

 But we were busy eating.

But Ashton was climbing out of the pool.

But Andy was looking at Mrs Campbell.

But Lucas was making trumpet noises with cones.

But we were busy in the sandpit.

“Smile” said Ms Boyd.

Everyone smiled.

“Too bad”, said Ms Boyd

“I’ve run out of film!”
